Crochet and Animal Print

Mixing a crochet knit with an animal print creates a fun fashion statement.

The crochet trend is one element from the 70's that I love. Today I’m wearing this long sleeved crochet top that I've had for years. I sometimes wear it as a beach cover up, but today I paired it with a brown tank top and an animal print skirt. The mix of these two trends creates a fun, subtle look. I added these copper-y, gold tie front sandals and a small leather tooled bag to complete this outfit. What do you think of this mix of elements? Is it something you would wear? Do you like the crochet knit trend this season?

Spanish Influenced Stripes and Ruffles

Spanish Influenced Stripes and Ruffles Outfit

Ruffles and stripes are two of my favourite design elements in clothing.

If I could I would wear ruffled everything everyday (I'm still craving a pair of Isa Arfen ruffled pants!) But this double ruffled outfit satisfies my craving, for now. This top not only has ruffled sleeves but also wide bold stripes which gives it a certain Spanish look that I love. When paired with a beige ruffled skirt and matching tie sandals, it creates a fun statement. I think the updo also adds to the Spanish vibe. What do you think of this outfit? Would you wear double ruffles? Do you like the Spanish influenced designs that were on the runways for Spring?

Puff Sleeves and Denim Joggers

A puff sleeved top and denim joggers make the perfect errand running outfit.

When the jogger trend was in full force I never jumped on board. I loved the way they looked on others but couldn’t find a pair that looked decent on me. Now that they are “out” I found this pair of lightweight denim joggers that I love. They are so comfortable and soft, and when paired with a belted puff sleeve top make a fun errand running outfit. What do you think of this look? Did you like joggers when they were in? Would you wear them now?

Rose Quartz and Serenity Blue

Rose Quartz and Serenity Blue Outfit

Rose Quartz and Serenity Blue are perfectly paired in this semi-dressy outfit.

When Pantone released these two colours as picks for Spring this year I was more than excited. My favourite colour is pink, in any shade, and when this light pale pink is paired with this beautiful shade of blue I love it even more. Today I’m wearing an outfit that I put together for a function I’ll be attending this coming weekend. The feather bag gives this outfit an extra something even though it may be a little over the top. What do you think of this look? Is it something you would wear? Do you like these Pantone colours paired together?

Classic Stripes and a "Pop" of Red

Classic Stripes and a "Pop" of Red outfit

Classic stripes are a trend that will never go out of style.

I have been loving stripes lately, but instead of colourful stripes, today I’m wearing classic stripes. Here I've paired a classic navy and white striped sweater with a jean shirt, red pants and a fun novelty bag. I added these heels since the laces look just like the stripes. This makes a fun yet, classic outfit. My cure for my allergies this week is to stay indoors with the A/C on recirculate. This makes it much cooler inside hence my choice of layers for today’s outfit. Also, I'm not leaving the house, but I added this bag for an extra “Pop!” in these photos. What do you think of this outfit? Do you love classic stripes or do you prefer colourful stripes? Are you a fan of novelty bags?

What to Wear for Mother's Day Brunch

Mother's Day Outfit

Here are a few outfit ideas to wear for Mother’s Day brunch.

Mother’s Day is this Sunday and although my mom passed in 2005, my husband and I celebrate as many families do, by taking his mother out to brunch. When choosing what to wear I take into consideration three things. My relatives tastes, the weather, and the venue where brunch will be held. I normally choose to wear neutrals as my husband’s family is more on the conservative side. This year I’m wearing my ruffle skirt since the venue is semi dressy, and I’m pairing it with a white short sleeved top under a beige cardigan since there is still a bit of chill in the air. The photo above shows the outfit I will be wearing this year, and following are some more outfit ideas for Mother’s Day brunch. Are you taking your mother to brunch this year? If so have you already planned out what you are wearing?

Rainbow Stripes

Rainbow Stripes Outfit

A rainbow striped dress is the perfect piece to bring some cheer into the week.

Allergies have gotten the best of me this past week though I did manage to take a few outfit photos since I had some events to attend. This rainbow striped dress I found in a vintage shop a several years ago. I loved it, but at that time thought it was a bit on the bright side. Now that bright stripes are “in” I pulled it out from the depths of my hoarding trenches and paired it with a white cardigan and yellow flatforms. The white helps off set the brightness of the stripes at bit. What do you think of this outfit? Do you like wearing bright colours? Would you wear rainbow stripes?

Blue and Jean

Wearing a blue bodycon dress, jean shirt, flatform slides and crossbody bag.

The combination of blue and jean go surprisingly well in today’s casual outfit.

I didn’t realize how much I love the colour blue until I started blogging. Looking back I see just how many blue items I own and how much I love wearing them. This outfit is one of my “go to” looks that I brought with me on my Palm Beach trip last month. This blue bodycon dress is so versatile though I usually wear it for casual day occasions and pair it with a jean shirt and flatform slides. I really love how the blue colour of the dress and the wash of this jean shirt complement each other. What do you think of this outfit? Would you pair the colour blue and jean together? Is there a colour that you didn’t realize you wear all the time until you looked back at outfit photos?

Spring Stripes and Plaid

Wearing pastel striped dress, green sweater, statement necklace and holding pastel plaid bag.

A pastel striped dress paired with a plaid bag creates a fun Spring outfit.

These photos were taken over the weekend when I wasn’t feeling to well due to allergies. As I was editing them I noticed my face is quite puffy, and a quote from a blog that I read last night popped into my head, “fashion is more about attitude than the clothes.” And that is so true. The outfit here usually looks amazing when I’m feeling normal, but because I wasn’t feeling to swift it didn’t look good in many of the photos. It was also a bit chilly out so I added a sweater under the dress and then topped it with a statement necklace to further bring out the colours. What do you think of this outfit? Do you think fashion is an attitude rather than the actual clothing?

Feathers for Spring

Wearing a pink feather collar with a pink short sleeve puff sleeve top, beige skirt, beige rockstud heels and holding a beige purse.

Feathers add a bit of fun to this Spring outfit.

A few weeks ago as I was attempting to clean out my closet when I came across this feather collar that I purchased from H&M a few years back. I decided to try it on and I just happened to be wearing this puff sleeve top at that time. To my surprised they looked perfect together! Now I normally would wear this collar in the fall with a black sweater. However, it looked so good with this top I thought why not try wearing it during the warmer months. The colour is also one of this Spring’s Pantone colours “Rose Quartz,” so I figured it would work. I paired the feather collar and top with a neutral skirt, bag and heels. What do you think of this outfit? Would you wear feathers for Spring?

Denim and Black

Wearing denim jacket, white tee, black pleated mini skirt and black mary janes with a black crossbody bag.

Today I’ve styled a denim jacket with a simple white tee and black pleated mini skirt.

I should have titled this post what to wear when you feel horrible. I’ve had a migraine and dizziness the past few days due to allergies. When I first experienced this I thought it was something serious and even had to wear a heart monitor, but the Dr. said it was just allergies. I thought there is no way this can be just allergies, but when it went away and happened again the next two years at the same time I realized that must be true. So today I thought I’d show you one of my go to outfits when I’m not feeling very well. What do you think of this outfit? Do you try to dress up a bit when you’re feeling under the weather? Do you battle allergies?

Colourful Stripes and Polka Dot Wedges

To add a bit of Spring into my outfit this past weekend I wore a colourful striped tank top.

It was cold in the morning and hot in the afternoon so I added a simple white jacket for our morning adventures. We went to the local farmer’s market which sells everything from herbs and soaps to trees and gardening tools. My husband was in search of a tree to replace an old Japanese Maple that had died over the winter. He’s like Mr. Miyagi when it comes to gardening. I however can only keep a cactus alive. Unfortunately the tree selection at the market was horrible, but I did find a unique hanging plant that I had to have. It’s buds look like mini Chinese lanterns, and I’ve added a photo of it below. Have you ever seen a plant like this, or found a unique plant in the past? Do you like gardening? I don’t, but I love having plants and flowers around.

How to Style Fur Pom Pom Shoes

Here are two fun ways to style fur pom pom shoes.

These fur pom pom shoes are one of my favourite pairs of winter shoes. Since there is still a cold chill in the air I figured I could get away with wearing them a few more times. Here are two ways to style these fun shoes. The first look is perfect for a day time lunch or shopping trip, while the second outfit is a bit more casual and great for running errands around town. What do you think of these looks? Do you think it’s too late to wear these shoes? (I know I should pack them away, but I just love them!) Are you looking forward to the Spring/Summer pom pom shoes? (I can’t wait to find a coloured pair with heels!)

Double Layered Turtleneck and Lace Ups

Layering a sleeveless turtleneck over a long sleeve turtleneck is perfect for today's outfit.

This ruffled skirt and white turtleneck is one of my “go to” outfits. Today however I decided to experiment and add a sleeveless brown turtleneck sweater on top creating a double layered turtleneck. I was surprised at how well it looked. I paired this with these brown lace up sandals seen in my last post. I’ve had these for years and purchased them way before lace up’s were “in.” What do you think of this outfit? Do you like the double layered turtleneck look? Is it something you would wear? Have you ever purchased an item way before it was popular?

Cold Weather Bell Sleeves Outfit

Wearing wool bell sleeve tie front long cardigan with white turtleneck and skinny jeans and lace up sandals.

Bell sleeve tops are one of my favourite trends this season,

and since it is cold and windy this bright Spring day I figured I’d wear this wool bell sleeved cardigan that I’ve had forever. The weather here has been crazy. Over the weekend it went from 80F to 30F. So to keep warm I paired the cardigan with a turtleneck and skinny jeans. Though instead of closed toe shoes, I let my feet freeze in lace up sandals simply because I needed some touch of Spring. What do you think of this outfit? Do you like the bell sleeve trend? Have you ever worn something and suffered just because it looked cute?

DIY Flower Choker + Jeans Outfit

Wearing black velvet choker with a large blue flower in the center. Black top and beige open cardigan with jeans. Black sunglasses on head.

Today I’m wearing a choker necklace that I made from a vintage flower brooch.

To create the choker I took a black velvet choker (seen in my previous post) and pinned a large vintage brooch in the center. You can create the same look using any brooch and a simple piece of elastic velvet ribbon from a craft store. Just make sure that the velvet is elastic, otherwise it will either have to be tied really tight or it will be too loose around the neck. This idea came from a SITC episode in which Carrie wears a large flower choker. Of course she paired it with an over the top outfit, but for my everyday look I chose to wear a black puffy sleeve top and jeans. And since it is so cold and windy today (hence the looks on my face in the outside photos) I added a thick wool cardigan on top. What do you think of this outfit? Do you like the flower choker look? Would you wear a large choker necklace?

How to Style Bright Pink for Work

Wearing bright pink pencil skirt, white button down and blue suede jacket. Photo cut off at knee length.

Bright pink is one of my favourite colours and today I’m showing how to style it for an office setting.

It’s been a while since I’ve left the corporate world and at that time my wardrobe consisted of two colours - black and grey. Perfectly appropriate for the office, but fashionably boring in my now updated opinion. I would have never chose a pink piece back then, but today I would wear pink in my outfit everyday. So for this office friendly outfit I paired a bright pink skirt with a white button down and a blue suede jacket. For the accessories I added a bright pink purse, pink accented jewelry, and lace heels. The bright colour works in this outfit because it is a structured piece that is paired with lighter tones and other modest structured pieces making it office appropriate. What do you think of this outfit? Would you wear this to work in a professional environment? Do you like wearing pink?

Standard Errand Uniform

Sweater + Jeans + A Blazer has become my standard errand running outfit for the last few months.

This outfit I wear to do the grocery shopping and run most of my errands.  Though the type of shoes, sweater, and fit of the blazer may change from time to time, essentially the look is the same.  And yes I do wear heels almost always, even to the grocery store (Why?? because I am so short I can barley reach the top shelf without them.)

How to Style a Choker

Wearing black choker with black and coloured striped sleeveless top and black pants.

Here are two easy ways to style a simple black choker.

I'm loving the choker trend and wanted to share my two favourite ways to style it. For the first outfit I paired my black velvet choker with a striped sleeveless top, black lightweight suede look pants, blue fishnet socks and black mary janes. This is a fun casual, yet classy look. The second outfit is dressier and perfect for going out. I paired the choker with a silk t-shirt, ruffled skirt, novelty bag, and nude rockstud heels. What do you think of these outfits? Do you like the choker trend? Have you worn one lately?

Spring Florals and Ladybug Pins

Wearing a bright yellow cardigan with 2 ladybug pins and a floral pin, tucked into a green floral print skirt. Holding a bright yellow clutch and wearing pink bow sandals and a white watch.

Today I wore a cheery Spring floral outfit to try to change the bad luck I’ve been having lately.

…and it did! The weather was beautiful, and I finally got out for my birthday dinner. Plus my sweet sister sent me this amazing Pegasus pool float that I’ve wanted forever. I didn’t expect any gifts as we usually exchange simple food items. So I was really shocked and delighted to receive this. I’ll put it in a post once I figure out how to blow it up…it’s about 8 ft long. As for my outfit I paired this Spring floral skirt with bright yellow for a happy energy vibe. For extra luck I added two ladybug pins and one of my grandmother’s floral pins. What do you think of this outfit? Have you ever dressed up just to change your luck and bring in good energy? Did it work for you?

How to Style a Print Skirt

Sitting on a settee wearing a floppy straw hat, black tank top, with a black cardigan around neck, white poofy skirt with black and yellow floral print, and black rockstud heels.

This floral print skirt is one of the day to night pieces that I packed for Spring break.

For both day and night I paired this print skirt with a simple black sleeveless top, a light weight cardigan and black rockstud heels. Then for the daytime outfit I added this fun floppy hat. What do you think of this outfit? Do you like wearing print skirts? Are you a fan of floppy hats?

What to Wear for Easter Brunch

Wearing a line dress with pink bodice and pink and white striped skirt. Short strand of white pearls, beige heels, a beige floppy hat and a yellow clutch.

Easter is this Sunday and I wanted to share some outfit ideas to wear for an Easter brunch.

The above photo is actually from Easter 2013 when it was very warm and sunny. This year however Easter Sunday is predicted to be cold and rainy. So with the crazy weather we’ve been having I figured I’d show Easter brunch outfit ideas for different weather situations. I'm not actually sure what we will be doing this year since Easter is so early and my birthday is on Monday, but I hope to at least eat lots of good food (that I don't cook.) If you celebrate Easter, are you doing anything fun this year? Do you have an outfit already picked out?

How to Wear a Skirt Over a Skirt

Wearing a blue sleeveless top, blue and pink necklace, blue flowy skirt with a pink full skirt on top and silver sandals.

Today I’m wearing a pink full skirt on top of a blue flowy skirt.

As I was shopping my closet in search of something "new" to wear for Easter, I decided to try something radical by placing a skirt on top of another skirt. I’ve seen the trend with the skirt over the pants before, but never really found a combination that looked decent on me. So I was very surprised that the skirt over the skirt looked (in my opinion) amazing! The base outfit is a simple two piece sleeveless set in serenity blue which is pictured towards the bottom of this post, and I simply added a full pink skirt on top of this set. What do you think of this look? Would you ever wear a skirt over a skirt? Have you tried the skirt over pants trend?

How to Wear a Spring Scarf

Top half of body wearing a beige zip up sweater, blue scarf tied around neck, and blue cross body bag.

For the first day of Spring I added colour to this  monochrome outfit by wearing a Spring hued scarf.

I also added a blue crossbody, which to my surprise matched the scarf perfectly. This scarf was my grandmothers. She had several colourful scarfs that she would wear to match her outfits. I’ve held on to most of them and am excited to see that they are back in style. This is a small square scarf that I rolled like a bandana and then wrapped it around my neck and tied it at the end. What do you think of this outfit? Do like wearing scarves? Have you ever held on to an item or items knowing that they will one day come back in style?

Green Ruffles for St. Patrick’s Day

Dressed in white shorts with a green sleeveless ruffeled top and white sunglasses. Photo shot in front of trees by a lake.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

I originally planned to wear a green sweater and skirt outfit for St. Patrick's day, but the weather has been so warm I had to find something more appropriate. So I pulled out this green ruffle top that I’ve had for years and paired it with white shorts and white sunglasses. What do you think of this outfit? Do you have any fun plans for St. Patrick’s Day?

How to Style a Printed Dress for Day and Night

Wearing a printed dress, black belt, black crossbody bag, black sunglasses, and black flatform shoes. Standing in front of a mirrored wall.

A simple change of shoes takes this printed dress outfit from day to night.

Here I’m wearing the dress I packed for Palm Beach. It’s a light weight flowy dress which can be styled easily for both daytime shopping and nighttime dinner and drinks. To start I cinched the waist with a black belt and then added a black crossbody bag. For the daytime outfit I added black and white flatforms and for the nighttime look I simply changed the shoes to rockstud heels. It’s the easiest outfit transition ever! What do you think of these looks? Have you ever completely changed an outfit just by changing the shoes?

Matchy Matchy Blue

Wearing a blue sweater and jeans that match the blue decor of the hotel bathroom.

The decor matches my outfit exactly.

Today we arrived in Palm Beach and as soon as we got into our hotel room I realized that my outfit matched the decor, especially the bathroom. Now we’ve stayed here a ton of times before, but they recently renovated and re decorated all the rooms. I had no idea it would be blue and did not plan this at all. The hotel I’m in is the “Eau Palm Beach,” which use to be the Ritz a few years ago. Even when it changed names the decor never changed. But I am happily surprised since I love all things matchy matchy. Have you ever worn an outfit and suddenly realized you matched your surroundings? Do like things to be matchy matchy? Are you on vacation at the moment?

What to Pack for Spring Break

Accessories laid out on a white ottoman. Straw hat with black bow, blue mirrored sunglasses, black crossbody bag with chain strap, pink and navy palm print bikini and black belt with gold buckel.

It’s spring break time and I’m packing for my trip.

I'm heading to Palm Beach, Fl for a last minute Spring vacation and I thought I’d share my tips on what to pack. I only take one carryon bag which means packing light. This can be quite difficult, but I've come up with a packing plan.

Fur Vest & Skinny Jeans

Wearing camel turtleneck with white fur vest and crossbody small orange leather tooled bag, skinny jeans and tortoise heels.

Are Skinny Jeans Bad for your Health?

For someone who used to not like jeans, I find myself wearing them more and more. I've read several articles that state skinny jeans are out style and that they are even bad for your health. Apparently if they are too tight they can cause nerve and muscle damage! Who knew?? The skinny jeans in this outfit are so comfortable I feel like I’m wearing yoga pants. It’s mainly because they have a bit of stretch to them. So I'm hoping they're not going to cut off my circulation anytime soon. To complete this outfit I added a camel coloured turtleneck, a white fur vest, and a colourful tooled leather purse that I picked up at Epcot in FL years ago. I think it gives this outfit a slight 70’s vibe. What do you think? Do you like wearing skinny jeans? Do you think they are bad for your health?

Hat Day

Wearing a black round hat with a brown blazer, black sweater, jeans and black boots.

It’s not often that I wear a hat.

When I do it’s usually because it’s raining, windy, or my hair is just not cooperating. Today is no exception. It’s windy and my hair decided to frizz this morning. So instead of fighting it I planned my outfit around this hat. I decided to pair it with a brown blazer with ruffle trim, a black sweater, jeans, and black boots. To my surprise it came out quite nice. What do you think of this outfit? Do you ever have days when you feel like you just need to wear a hat?

Lavender and Blue Jeans

Wearing long lavender mohair cardigan with a white turtleneck under and jeans. Gold glitter mary janes and holding a small baguette camel purse.

Believe it or not there was a time when I would never wear an outfit like this.

My entire wardrobe consisted of almost all black pieces, no light colours, and hardly any jeans. That’s when I was working in NYC. Then I moved to the south, got married, and everything changed, including my wardrobe. It is now full of colour, texture, and happy memories. These jeans are very vintage Levis that I used to wear when my husband and I were first dating (over 10 yrs ago.) I pulled them out today and was excited to see that they still fit. I paired them with a white turtleneck, a lavander mohair cardigan last seen here, and my favourite gold glitter mary janes.
What do you think of this look? Do you have items that you haven’t worn in over 10 years? Are there pieces in your closet that hold happy memories?

Casual Metallics

Wearing cuffed jeans, a white turtleneck, a silver metallic circle cardigan with a black belt with gold buckle. Carrying a silver rectangular clutch with chain detail around it. And black mary janes.

As a maximalist at heart I would wear ruffles, fur, and metallics everyday if I could.

But for my husband’s sake, and since I'm usually running errands and going to the grocery store, I try to tone it down a bit. So for todays outfit I took two shiny metallic pieces, a silver metallic circle cardigan and a metallic chain trimmed clutch, and toned them down by pairing them with cuffed jeans and a simple white turtleneck. What do you think of this casual metallic look? Are you more of a maximalist or minimalist when it comes to style?

Cat Fish Brooch

Smiling wearing rust coloured heavy cable knit sweater with a gold brooch of a car sticking his paw in a gold fish jar, dark brown leather skirt, light brown shoes, holding brown Louis never full bag.

This outfit is built around a vintage brooch.

I purchased this brooch from Beacon’s closet, a vintage shop in NY, a while ago. It’s a gold brooch of a cat standing over a fish bowl, which I thought was adorable and very unique. Though I came to discover that there are several of these brooches for sale on ebay. So it's not very unique, but still cute none the less. To make the brooch stand out I chose this rust coloured cable knit sweater. Then I paired it with a dark brown leather skirt and light brown heels. What do you think of this outfit? Have you ever centered your outfit around one particular piece? Have you ever purchased something that you thought was unique only to find out there are dozens of them out there?

Formal Fur Expression

Wearing a black long sleeve dress with blue faux fur stole and black shoes.

My go to outfit for any formal function starts with a simple black dress.

I then add colourful accessories and other layers. Here I added my favourite faux fur stole, last seen here. Now I’m no model and my cheeks are a bit on the chubby/saggy side so my resting face tends to come off plain or slightly angry at times (I know there is a name for this, but I’m not repeating it here.) For this shoot I wanted to try something different to give more expression to my face. These photos are the result. I think they are a bit fun, what do you think? Do you like your resting face? Do you carry expression well? What is your formal go to outfit?

Winter Blues

Outside wearing black texttured sweater jacket, ocean blue turtleneck, black and white tweed skirt, black tights, black booties, and blue mirrored sunglasses on head.
During the winter I find it hard to be motivated. The grey skies and freezing weather have given way to my winter blues and longing for summer. I combat this feeling with my outfit choices. So today I added a hint of blue to bring warmth into this cold, cloudy and windy day. Most people would not wear sunglasses since there is almost no sun, but I thought “who cares,” if I want to wear sunglasses on a seemingly cloudy day I should just do it! I did manage to snap a few photos when the sun popped out for a moment so it doesn’t look so out of place in this post. What do you think of this outfit? Have you ever worn sunglasses on a cloudy day simply because it matched your outfit?

How to Wear Denim On Denim

Wearing an open denim button down on top of a black turtleneck with jeans, black belt with a gold buckle, and black shoes with pom pom fur.
When I was younger I never wore denim. I didn’t like the texture or the look of it. My grandmother even hand made me a denim jacket with embroidered patches on it and I refused to wear it. Now of course I wish I had that jacket as it was a beautiful piece, and it’s totally on trend today. These days I find myself wearing denim more and more. Mainly because it’s machine washable and perfect for running errands in. So for this errand running Saturday I’m wearing denim on denim. To break up the pieces I added a black turtleneck, black belt, and my favourite black fur pom pom shoes. What do you think of this look? Do you like the denim on denim trend? Is it something you would wear?

Romantic Lace

Wearing blouse with flared lace sleeves and lace collar, topped with a black sleeveless sweater. Black leather skirt with ruffled trim and black clogs. Black sunglasses on head.
Today I’m wearing an Alice & Olivia lace blouse that I purchased years ago on ebay. It was such a great deal that I bought it in white and black. Needless to say both blouses have been sitting in my closet with the tags still on (they were sold “new with tags.”) So I pulled them out as soon as I heard romantic lace is a trend this season. For this outfit I topped the lace blouse with a black sleeveless sweater for depth. Then I paired it with a leather skirt with a ruffled hem, and black clogs. I just love the look of the romantic lace sleeves with the leather and ruffle details of the skirt. What do you think of this look? Do you like the romantic lace trend?

Pink & Spider Brooch

Wearing a bright pink sweater with a spider brooch. A light pink button down underneath and a bright pink pencil skirt. Carrying a pink purse.
I was going to spend Valentine’s Day on the couch, but unfortunately a relative had gone into the hospital last week so we spent it with her. I figured I’d wear an all pink outfit to try and brighten an unhappy occasion. This sweater and skirt are very similar in shade so I added a light pink button down underneath to add a little separation between the two darker pieces. I’m also wearing a vintage insect brooch. This spider brooch was part of my grandmother’s collection and since insect brooches are an upcoming trend I thought it was the perfect accessory to my all pink outfit. What do you think of wearing all pink? Is it something you would wear? Did you have a fun Valentine’s Day?

What to Wear for Valentine’s Day

Valentine's outfit - Top of body- Wearing light pink fur trimmed short sweater with a bright pink ruffled sleeveless top and bright pink pencil skirt with skinny gold belt.
Today I'm showing what I would wear if I had something exciting to do for Valentine’s Day. These days my Valentine’s Day is spent doing the usual - cooking dinner and watching TV on the couch with my two favourite loves - my little dog and my husband. But long ago, before all this couch time, there were fun nights out with friends (Galentine’s) and romantic dinners for which I loved dressing up. So here is what I would wear if I were going out this Valentine’s Day.

Black Velvet & Purple Fuzz

Wearing black velvet blazer, handmade purple fuzz scarf, belted over the blazer.
Today is Mardi Gras which is celebrated in some cities here in the U.S. so I thought I would add some purple fuzz to my black velvet outfit to celebrate. Where I live there is no celebration, but in cities such as New Orleans, people dress up in fun costumes usually in the colours of purple, green and yellow to celebrate. This purple fuzzy scarf was a handmade gift from my step father’s mother. I just love the colour and softness of the material.

Layering: Sheer Lace Up Top & Turtleneck

Half body shot of outfit with black sheer lace up top over white turtleneck with jeans.
Although they are one of the top trends this year, sheer and lace up tops were not something I thought would ever look decent on me. Maybe I’m a bit modest, or maybe it’s just old age, but I didn’t think I could pull it off until now. This sheer lace up top has been in my closet for years. It was a gift and I never liked the look of it until I paired it with this turtleneck. The sheerness is way too revealing (for me anyway) to wear just a bra or crop top underneath. It needed something more. Once I added the turtleneck, I loved it! I think it gives it a modest and yet modern feel. What do you think of this look? Would you layer a sheer top over a turtleneck?

Glitter Shoes: Channeling My Inner Dorothy

Wearing blue sweater, cream mini skirt, gold glitter shoes with pink trim, and a pink purse and sunglasses.
These outfit photos were taken over the weekend and originally the title of this post was “All that Glitters…” Then something strange happened. Yesterday, while sitting at my computer, I glanced out the window and noticed an odd looking cloud. “That looks like a tornado!” I thought and then quickly dismissed it as an over-worked mind trick since we never get tornados here. The sky was calm, and the weather was to be mild with showers in the afternoon.

Quilted Vest & Quilted Skirt

Wearing a quilted vest, black long sleeve turtleneck, quilted gold skirt and knee high grey suede boots.
We have had the craziest weather lately. Today is warm (65F) but windy so I decided to wear an all quilted outfit. I paired a quilted vest with a black turtleneck and my vintage gold quilted skirt, last seen here. I really love the look of the two quilted pieces together. What do you think of this outfit? Would you pair a quilted top and bottom together?

How to Wear Fur Cuffs

Black faux fur cuffs on the sleeves of a black turtleneck with a leather skirt and black crossbody.
So I’ve been on a fur kick lately and decided to wear another one my favourite winter accessories, faux fur cuffs. I actually purchased these a few years back at ASOS. They are very versatile and can be placed on the sleeves of any top or jacket. I usually wear them with a tight fitting top like this turtleneck. I paired this with a dark brown leather skirt, black shoes and a black crossbody bag. What do you think of this outfit? Would you wear fur cuffs?

Faux Fur Vest + Plaid Scarf

Wearing a faux fur vest and plaid scarf turned sideways.
If you’ve seen some of my other posts you know I’m addicted to fur. I love bright coloured fur, fuzzy pom poms, and many items that may seem a bit much (wait till I get into glitter,) but today I’m wearing a toned down piece. It’s a vintage brown faux fur vest that I’ve had for years. I usually pair it with a white or tan coloured top, but I love how this black turtleneck really makes the brown stand out. The plaid scarf was a Christmas gift to my husband. He’s not into scarves so I figured I’d make use of it. The combination of the faux fur vest and plaid scarf is perfect for the slightly warmer weather today. What do you think of this outfit? Is it something you would wear?

How to Belt a Fur Scarf

Blue and black fur scarf wrapped with skinny belt on waist.
Over the weekend I had a party to attend and wanted to wear my favourite winter accessory. However I didn't want to have to carry the scarf if it became too warm indoors. If you saw last weeks post I showed how to wear this fur scarf over a jacket. For this party I decided to pair it with a short sleeved button down and belt it in the front. This way I could always unbelt it and wrap it around my shoulders if it was a bit chilly indoors. Now of course I wore a jacket over this outfit on the way to the party, but left it in the car so I wouldn't have to carry it. What do you think of the belted fur scarf? Is it something you would wear?

Dressed for the Cold

It is very cold and just lightly snowing here today so I decided to pull out some fun winter wear. I love statement coats and this one is thin but made of tightly knitted wool with embroidery. It is super warm especially over a cashmere turtleneck. I’m not a huge fan of earmuffs, but these provide amazing warmth to my entire head. What do you think of this winter outfit? Are you a fan of ear muffs? Is it snowing where you are today?

How to Style a Furry Scarf over a Winter Coat

A snow storm is just above where I live and it is freezing today. So to keep warm I decided to wear a houndstooth winter coat which I purchased for my grandmother years before she passed. A furry scarf by Unreal fur, which has been my go-to accessory lately, and vintage leather gloves. Underneath I’m wearing a jean shirt under a v-neck sweater. With all of these layers I hope to stay warm during this winter storm.

What to Wear when it's Windy and Cold

It is so cold and windy today I decided to wear warm layers on top and faux leather biker pants on the bottom. Under the coat I'm wearing a cashmere sweater for extra warmth. Although both the coat and sweater are slightly thin, the wool and cashmere layers provide plenty of warmth for the day.
